character information
name: Billy Rocks
canon: The Magnificent Seven (2016)
canon point: Post-death; right after he breathes his last.
age: No canon age is explicitly stated, but I'm going to say he's somewhere in his thirties. If I had to pick a number, it'd be 39.

(canon) background:

An asterisk (*) marks headcanon.
Movie
Billy has no wiki of his own and there's no lengthy explanation of his backstory in canon, but here's what's available from the movie and interviews of the cast:

-Korean immigrant.
-Was an indentured servant who eventually killed his masters and ran off.
-By the time set in the movie, Billy has a good grasp on the English language, *which can imply that he came to the U.S. at a young age. I like to say he was 10-12 years old when he first arrived.
-Helps Goodnight with his PTSD episodes.

Some time after Billy ran away, Goodnight Robicheaux tracked him down to a saloon in Texas, intending to cash in on a warrant that was out for Billy, only to be impressed by the other man's combat prowess as he watched him take on the whole bar with his bare fists. (Billy started the fight due to the bartender refusing to serve "his kind.") So instead of arresting Billy, Goodnight formed a partnership with him. Goodnight would help Billy navigate through the "white man's prejudice" (as Billy put it) and Billy would help Goodnight bring in the money through their hustling in quick-draw contests with the locals of the various towns they traveled to together.

They knew people would underestimate Billy because of his size and for his being a POC, so they used that ignorance to their advantage. Goody (short for Goodnight) would always bet on Billy in the contests while the others bet on their local man, leaving a lot to be cashed in every time Billy won. Then Goody would split the pay with Billy in equal shares.

It's unknown how many years they traveled together before the opening of the movie, but ever since Texas, Billy and Goodnight stuck together, evolving from business partners to best friends.

abilities:
-No supernatural powers to account for.
-Experienced with horseback riding.
-Can throw knives with deadly accuracy, but he's just as skilled with dual-wielding them in his hands.
-Also proficient with a gun and rile (*likely taught by Goody, who was a sharpshooter for the Confederate army).
-Agile, to the point where he almost seems to move with grace on the battlefield.
-If he wanted to, he could use his hairpin as a weapon. (Though it'd likely be more for show, or if he was in a pinch and had nothing else.)

strengths:

Calm and Collected: Even when bullets are flying all over the place and people are dropping like flies, Billy works through his fear rather than let it take over, maintaining accuracy with both knives and firearms. Outside of battle, he rarely loses his cool, often keeping a nonchalant facial expression. He’s a pillar of strength for Goodnight when the other man’s PTSD gets the better of him, and would gladly be one for other people once he gets to know them.

Loyal: Billy proves to be a dedicated friend once he forms a solid bond with someone, not just with Goody but with the rest of the Seven and the people of Rose Creek. Even when Goodnight decided to leave, Billy stayed behind, refusing to abandon them. He’s not the type to just turn tail and leave. If you need someone to watch your back, he’s got you.

Resilient and Resourceful: The Wild West was not an easy place to live in, but Billy managed well enough, even before meeting Goody, considering he managed to avoid capture (and death) while there was a warrant on him, and in a prejudiced society no less. He can handle sleeping outside, starting a fire, hunting for his own food, bathing without hot water, etc. It also takes a lot to bring this man down; a single bullet wouldn’t be enough to stop him unless it hit something vital. It took a Gatling gun to finally kill him.

Observant and Silent: Outside of a friendly social context, Billy tends to be a man of few words, preferring to keep his eyes and ears open rather than his mouth, whether he’s making a mental map of his surroundings or sizing people up. He knows how to restrain himself from making unnecessary comments.

weaknesses:

Stoic: Billy’s outer calm can make him seem unfeeling and even a bit intimidating—he made Faraday nervous when he didn’t laugh at his joke. Though he's willing to listen to others vent, Billy isn’t good at talking about his own feelings, preferring to keep to himself when going through a difficult time—he sat at the bar, alone, after Goody left. Speaking of the bar, Billy may turn to the bottle for comfort if he has no one to discuss his feelings with.

Secretive: It’s likely that the only canon mate who knows of Billy’s past is Goody. For the most part, however, Billy prefers to keep moving forward without looking back. There’s no need to reopen old wounds by talking about unpleasant things that have already happened to him. This kind of goes hand in hand with his difficulty in discussing his feelings. He's willing to make friends, but that doesn't mean he'll be ready to share his distant past with them soon.

Assassin: Because of the cut-throat society of the Wild West, Billy quickly learned that most people there weren’t above using violence, so neither is he. He is not the type to turn down a fight if someone challenges him, and he tends to go all out be it with fists, knives, guns, or a combination. But it's important to know that he’s not a loose cannon, so he won’t fight someone without a reason.

Guarded: Billy is used to people looking down on him for being different, so while he won’t question someone’s kindness if they show it to him, he’ll be wondering in the back of his mind whether that person has some ulterior motive or not. But once he realizes there’s no such thing happening, he’ll gradually warm up to that person.

job skills (optional): 1) Knows how to care for horses. 2) Able to work well with others. 3) Fighter.
(As a side note: I was considering either Buttercup Farms or the Police Department, but am open to any other suggestions!)
housing (optional): Communal for now!
